3. Résumé

« [...] Quebec women of the 80’s and 90’s ’are challenging traditional perspectives on mothers and mothering by reassessing the nature of maternal power, by analizing the constraints placed on women and men in the cultural reproduction of mothering, and by addressing in their writing the daily realities of women’s experiences as mothers through maternal eyes’ (Gould 1992, 113-114). Monique Larue’s first three novels -La cohorte fictive (1979), Les Faux fuyants (1982) and Copies conformes (1989) - form part of this recent trend. All three texts present the theme of motherhood from the perspective of the mother and take a new look at her day-to-day experiences and emotions. They thus provide a space in which the maternal voice can be heard and help reshape the plots of the past by focusing on the dual themes of reproduction and re-production. » (p. 35)
