Fiche synthèse

1. Objectifs

Intentions :
« This paper will present the indicators of high quality care for school-age children that have been derived from studies of preschool children in group settings. As well, factors that have been shown to influence program attendance will be presented and considered for possible inclusion in provincial and territorial regulations for school-age programs. These elements will be examined for their relevance to quality in school-age programs, even though the research studies that reported these findings did not attempt to link these factors to developmental outcomes. Furthermore, the relationship between all of these factors and the regulations established for school-age care programs in the various Canadian provinces and territories will be explored. Finally, the relevance of the current regulations for school-age programs will be debated and the wisdom of exempting certain programs from the regulatory process will be discussed. » (pp. 246-247)
