1. Objectifs

Intentions :
The aim of this study is to «compare diet quality and dietary intake between […] pregnant women, […] women planning to conceive and […] women of childbearing age, using a matched pairs design.» (p. 758)

2. Méthode

Échantillon/Matériau :
L’échantillon (n = 165) de cette étude est divisé en trois groupes. Le premier groupe est composé de 55 femmes ayant le projet de tomber enceintes. Ces participantes forment un sous-échantillon du projet Apports Nutritionnel durant la GrossessE (ANGE), dont l’échantillon original était composé de 86 femmes enceintes, toutes recrutées dans la ville de Québec. Le deuxième groupe est composé de 55 femmes en âge de procréer. Ces participantes proviennent du projet Apports Nutritionnels durant la GrossessE – Cohorte contrôle (ANGE-Ctrl), dont l’échantillon original était composé de 180 femmes recrutées à Québec également. Enfin, le troisième groupe est composé de 55 femmes enceintes, issues de l’étude PRÉDicteurs Individuels Sociaux et Environnementaux (PREDISE), dont l’échantillon original était composé de 1045 participants (516 hommes et 529 femmes) provenant de différentes régions du Québec.

3. Résumé

The results show that pregnant «women reported dietary intakes of greater quality than those of women planning to conceive and non-pregnant women of childbearing age that were similar in age and BMI. Pregnant women may become more aware of the importance of a healthy diet upon learning that they are pregnant, leading to conscious increases in intake of nutrient-rich foods, such as fruits, vegetables and grain products, explaining their higher energy intakes. Although [the authors] found no differences between the diets of women of childbearing age and women planning to conceive, the greater use of multivitamins and folic acid supplements observed in the latter group suggests better adherence to nutritional recommendations when women are planning a pregnancy. Nevertheless, [these] results do not show a link between pregnancy intention and healthier dietary behaviours.» (p. 766-767)
