3. Résumé

«The present study shows that the motivations of the men who committed a filicide on the territory of the province of Quebec between 1997 and 2012 were mainly retaliating killings in the context of a separation, as well as the consequences of fatal physical abuse or tyrannical discipline. A small number of filicides were committed by men with a disturbed psychological state (psychosis or major depression). In addition, [this] study highlights some of the characteristics that help distinguish certain characteristics of male perpetrators of a filicide, based on their motivation to commit the crime. These characteristics include the child’s age, hospitalizations that occurred during the year prior to the crime, the presence of depressive and/or psychotic symptoms as well as the sentence rendered. Despite certain characteristics that are common among all cases of male filicides, [the] results highlight the presence of distinct profiles according to the motive behind the crime.» (p. 80)
