3. Résumé

«[T]he application of SAR [social action research] may nevertheless help groups that experience oppression to develop alternative understandings of the issues they face and take action, while at the same time contributing to knowledge development through research. Parents, when offered the opportunity, have developed critical understanding as the basis of action on issues important to them while at the same time providing rich seams of research data. Working with parents by using an emancipatory research framework such as the one outlined in this article also contributes, despite some of the barriers we have identified, to an added value through its capacity to have an impact beyond the conventional community of research recipients, such as policy makers, academics, and service providers.» (p. 226)
