3. Résumé
«This article presents the evolution of family formation models in Canada and of the laws governing divorce or separation, with special attention given to the specificity of the Province of Quebec compared to the rest of Canada. Indeed not only is the legal framework different, but the values and behavior of Quebec couples are distinct from the rest of Canada, given a majority of Quebec couples choose to live and have children as common law couples. Notwithstanding this specificity, the results of our empirical study have shown that after parental separation it is the quality of the factors cited in the literature as being positive for the child’s adaptation are reported as the best predictors of a child’s adaptation to his parent’s separation. After parental separation, it is the quality of the psychological and relational environment in which the child lives that is the most important for his or her adjustment.» (p. 538)
