Fiche synthèse

1. Objectifs

Intentions :
«The main objective of the current study was to empirically validate the Perceived Equity and Equality of Sexual Practices Scale (PEESP).» (p. 28)

Questions/Hypothèses :
«Positive correlations were expected between the perception of equity/equality and both measures of satisfaction. […] Participants who described a subjectively fair sexual relationship were expected to be more satisfied with their relationship and their sex life than over-benefitted participants and under-benefitted participants. […] It was expected that women would be more likely to report a subjectively fair sexual relationship or a sexually over-benefitted position than men.» (p. 28)

2. Méthode

Échantillon/Matériau :
«The sample included 296 participants aged 18 to 30 and currently involved in a heterosexual and sexually active couple relationship. They were undergraduate women (66.2%) and men (33.8%) recruited from a French-Canadian university.» (p. 28)

Instruments :
Questionnaires

Type de traitement des données :

3. Résumé

«Exploratory factorial analyses revealed three factors underlying the perception of one’s contribution to the couple’s sex life: implication, expression of discomfort, and sharing. These subscales were replicated for the perception of the partner’s contribution to the couple’s sex life which allowed three scores to be computed assessing the perceived equality of the contributions to the couple’s sex life. Correlations were found between the nine subscales and the levels of couple and sexual satisfaction, thus indicating convergent validity. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability over a two-week period were satisfactory for all subscales. The perception of sexual equity was also assessed by two global questions inspired by previous measures. MANOVAs showed that individuals who perceived themselves as being in a sexually equitable relationship were more satisfied with their couple and sexual life compared to sexually under-benefitted individuals. Results show that the PEESP is a promising instrument for use in clinical and research settings.» (p. 25)
