Intentions : « This article presents the results of our literature review. We begin by discussing some differences between younger and olderwomen experiencing domestic violence. The two paradigms are then presented in turn, each beginning with a brief description, followed by a review of dominant approaches to intervention and a critical analysis of how well these approaches meet the needs of older women. The strengths and limitations of each are summarized, and we offer some suggestions for how to proceed in the development of an improved response. » (p. 252)

« Olderwomen experiencing domestic violence are an invisible group who fall into the gap between two forms of family violence: elder abuse and domestic violence. This article reviews the literature in both fields, describing each paradigm, how it explains and responds to its specific form of violence, and why neither has been able to provide an adequate response to domestic violence against older women. A collaborative response is needed, accounting for both the age and gender dimensions of the problem. » (p. 251)
